2nd Annual Jr. RBI Opening Day
May 31st, 2014
After countless sno-cones, hundreds of smiles, 1,000 sausages from Kiolbassa Sausage Company, and one visit from Spike, the 2nd annual Jr. RBI Opening Day is in the books!
The annual event marked the beginning of 2014 Jr. RBI Summer League. Over 400 boys and girls will compete in our t-ball, coach pitch, kid pitch, and softball divisions.
This year the event got a special visit from Spike, the Round Rock Express mascot! Spike threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Chris, from the kid pitch Nationals, to officially start the 2014 summer season.
“I thought Opening Day was great, and it just gets better and better each year,” Jr. RBI League President Brian Lusson said.
40 plus volunteers helped register, hand out uniforms, and cook food for Jr. RBI players and their families. The volunteering didn’t stop at the registration table, but extended to the coach staffs for all teams.
“We’re excited for the hundreds of new mentoring relationships that are being formed this summer and look forward to the impact for years to come,” RBI Austin Director Matt Price said.
By having volunteers who committed to investing in children and ball players, RBI Austin hopes to develop future leaders, athletes, university graduates, and see them transform their community in ways bigger than just baseball.
“We are certainly off to a great start,” Lusson said. “I really look forward to watching games on Saturdays, and seeing all the families enjoying baseball and sharing time together.”
