RBI Austin Softball Clinics with Cat Osterman & Texas State Softball
Did you know that 331 (32%) of RBI Austin players are girls?
Our softball program has come a long way since the start of RBI Austin in 2011 when we had no softball teams. In 2013 RBI Austin – with the help of Cat Osterman – introduced its first girls-only softball division and since then softball has steadily grown in numbers from year to year.
This year RBI Austin offered its players two softball clinics led by four-time All-American, University of Texas softball player, and Olympic gold medalist, Cat Osterman. Osterman, now an assistant softball coach at Texas State University, brought several of her star Bobcat softball players with her to serve as instructors at the clinics. The first clinic focused on hitting and defense, allowing RBI Austin’s softball players to get an edge up in this aspect of their game. The second clinic focused solely on pitching which allowed for plenty of personal instruction from Cat and a few of her top Texas State pitchers.
Although Cat and the Texas State players did an excellent job demonstrating why they were leaders on the field, the added treat came when we learned how they lead off the field. Osterman made a point to open and close the clinic in prayer, while also praising her players on being admirable women of the Lord. This was clearly displayed by Texas State outfielder, Christiana McDowell, who shared with the RBI Austin softball players in attendance her testimony of coming to know Christ, and how that has changed her life.
Thanks to Cat and her Texas State softball players, both clinics were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities exclusively for the girls of RBI Austin. We’re looking forward to continuing to watch softball grow and positively impact young women throughout our organization and our city.
