Press Release: MLB-Affiliate RBI Austin Announces Public Phase of Capital Campaign for Permanent Home
The campaign has raised 87 percent of its goal
Austin, TX (November 21, 2024) – RBI Austin is pleased to announce the public phase of its capital campaign to develop a permanent home. This campaign supports RBI Austin in its mission to engage and develop inner-city Austin youth through baseball, softball, and mentoring, empowering them to lead the transformation of their communities. To date, RBI Austin has raised over $5 million –more than 87 percent of its $6.2 million capital campaign goal.
Currently, RBI Austin operates primarily out of school and City ball fields, limiting programs to certain days, times, and weather conditions. This means no year-round home for RBI Austin, no consistent place for RBI Austin players and coaches to gather, and no place for RBI Austin players to train after dark or during bad weather.
In 2018, through a remarkable chain of events and partnership with a local church, RBI Austin acquired 33 acres of land off Loyola Lane in the heart of East Austin. Through this work of God, RBI Austin has the location to build a permanent home to include a headquarters building consisting of multi-use rooms for mentoring, academic support, and job training, along with a weight room and a covered turf field with batting cages and sports performance facilities.
Mabee Foundation Challenge Grant
RBI Austin has raised $5,449,463 of its $6,232,336 project budget through private donors and grants. This includes a $1,300,000 challenge grant they received earlier this year from the Mabee Foundation.
To activate this $1.3 Million challenge grant, RBI Austin needs to raise the remaining $782,873 of its capital campaign no later than January 8, 2025.
The goal is to close out the capital campaign by end of year.
RBI Austin believes the greatest need in any child’s life is positive, consistent relationships. While relationships can happen anywhere, a “home” provides consistency, safety, and the ability to be known in a unique and powerful way.
