Let’s celebrate what June brought on the MENTORING front!

The month of June has been full of summer fun for RBI Mentoring! We are so excited to share with you what we’ve been up to and all that has happened so far this summer!

We have been able to match FIVE new Oak Springs 4th graders with mentors since June 3! THIS IS HUGE! Because it means……Five more students from Austin’s inner city are now provided with a steadfast, faithful mentor who will walk beside and help guide them through life.

Upcoming Events

We will be hosting a dinner for our current Mentors at Maudie’s at the Triangle on July 7 @ 6:30 pm. We are pumped to hear from our mentors, have them share their experiences, and have a time to encourage one another in this process!

Prayer Requests

We want to first praise God for the success that He has given us so far! With that, we would love for you to partner with us in praying for our current mentorships and our mentees’ families! Ask that God would give us favor with the families and that Jesus would use the mentorships as a platform to draw them near to Himself! Pray that we will be able to match the remaining students we have before the summer ends, that we will be able to have fruitful communication with parents, and that we will be able to continue to find mentors!

We would love for all of our Jr. RBI softball girls to come out for the clinic being hosted by players on the USSSA Pride, a National Pro Fastpitch Softball team. What an awesome opportunity this is for the girls to be coached and encouraged by women who are playing the sport of softball at the highest level possible! (See the flyer above for details.)

The Pride and Dell Diamond have also invited our Jr. RBI softball players and their families out to the park as they Pride take on the Chicago Bandits. They are giving all our players free tickets to the Friday, June 27th game. The game will be at 7:00 p.m.

We will be collecting ticket reservations on this Saturday, the 21st. Please get in your requests so that we can all go watch some softball!

RBI Austin Celebrates 2nd Annual Jr. RBI Opening Day

2nd Annual Jr. RBI Opening Day
May 31st, 2014

After countless sno-cones, hundreds of smiles, 1,000 sausages from Kiolbassa Sausage Company, and one visit from Spike, the 2nd annual Jr. RBI Opening Day is in the books!

The annual event marked the beginning of 2014 Jr. RBI Summer League. Over 400 boys and girls will compete in our t-ball, coach pitch, kid pitch, and softball divisions.

This year the event got a special visit from Spike, the Round Rock Express mascot! Spike threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Chris, from the kid pitch Nationals, to officially start the 2014 summer season.

“I thought Opening Day was great, and it just gets better and better each year,” Jr. RBI League President Brian Lusson said.

40 plus volunteers helped register, hand out uniforms, and cook food for Jr. RBI players and their families. The volunteering didn’t stop at the registration table, but extended to the coach staffs for all teams.

“We’re excited for the hundreds of new mentoring relationships that are being formed this summer and look forward to the impact for years to come,” RBI Austin Director Matt Price said.

By having volunteers who committed to investing in children and ball players, RBI Austin hopes to develop future leaders, athletes, university graduates, and see them transform their community in ways bigger than just baseball.

“We are certainly off to a great start,” Lusson said. “I really look forward to watching games on Saturdays, and seeing all the families enjoying baseball and sharing time together.”
