What a summer!

Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Round Rock Express General Manager Tim Jackson and President Chris Almendarez, and Olympian Cat Osterman congratulate our Jr. RBI League MVPs on a great summer season during Closing Ceremonies at Triple-A for a Day!

The 2016 RBI Austin Summer Season has wrapped up, and it was one to celebrate! With 819 kids playing on 59 teams (up from 656 kids on 47 teams in 2015), this was our biggest summer yet. Overall, the summer comprised of 375 games and we cannot thank enough our amazing RBI parents, partners, and 348 volunteers for their crucial role in this season’s success!

In addition to the summer league and playoffs for Jr. RBI (girls ages 4-14, boys ages 4 – 12) and RBI (boys ages 13-18), many relationships were formed among players, parents, families, coaches, and mentors.

Jr. RBI Recap

Our 45 Jr. RBI teams enjoyed a fun summer on and off the diamond. The season ended on Saturday, August 6th with six teams being crowned 2016 Jr. RBI Champions, capped off by our Closing Ceremonies at the annual Triple-A for A Day festivities at Mabson Field. Mayor Steve Adler and Olympian Cat Osterman recognized our Team and League MVPs, and the Round Rock Express brought their game day entertainment to the final two championship games.

We’ll be back in action with baseball and softball clinics in the spring! If you’re interested in your child playing baseball or softball this fall, check out these local leagues.

RBI Recap

Our 2016 RBI division consisted of 14 teams playing at 10 local high school fields. Growing in skill, character, and forming lasting relationships, the summer season was a great success for our high school players.

On Saturday, July 9th, the RBI Austin 15U and 18U championship games took place with the RBI Mavericks winning the 15U championship and the RBI Thunder taking home the 18U crown. Check out the RBI Championship photos here.

This summer, RBI Austin’s 15U & 18U Regional teams competed in local select tournaments and then in the MLB RBI Southwest Regional tournament in New Orleans from July 14th-17th. 2016 marked the first year of the RBI Southwest Regional taking place in New Orleans.

The New Orleans MLB Urban Youth Academy hosted the tournament, and our RBI Austin teams competed with some of the top talent in the Southwest. Highlights included our 15U team’s 7-5 victory over Baton Rouge RBI and our 18U team’s 13-5 victory over Northwest Houston RBI.  Check out photos from the RBI Southwest Regional tournament here.

Major League Baseball hosts the MLB RBI National tournament every year with regional champions earning a berth to the RBI World Series. Since 2013, there have been more than 40 RBI players selected in the MLB Draft, more than half of whom have played in the RBI World Series.

While the cleats are hung up for the summer, several of our players will be participating in our Prospect Development Program this fall. For more information about the Prospect Development Program, please email Michael Galvan at michael.galvan@rbiaustin.org.

Sincere thanks to all the kids, families, and volunteers who made this summer a great one! We are grateful for the RBI Austin family and look forward to seeing you around!
